Milence opens truck charging park in the port of Antwerp-Bruges

The joint venture Milence, founded by Daimler Truck, Traton Group and Volvo Group, has opened its third truck charging park in the port of Antwerp-Bruges.

Ten CCS (Combined Charging System) chargers with a charging capacity of up to 400 kW per bay supply a total of 20 parking spaces. Anja van Niersen, CEO of Milence, commented on the opening of the charging park: “With this strategic addition to the network, Milence’s future roadmap is taking shape. Situated on the Rhine-Alpine corridor, one of the busiest freight routes in Europe, this will bring the charging infrastructure where it is most needed to enable the sustainable transport of goods across the continent.” Milence inaugurated the charging park for electric lorries in the presence of Maros Sefcovic, Executive Vice President for the European Green Deal.

With a total throughput of 289 million tonnes per year, the port of Antwerp-Bruges is an essential hub for global trade. Its central location, extensive connections and infrastructure make it an important hub in the Milence network.Jacques Vandermeiren, CEO of the Port of Antwerp-Bruges, said: “The need for charging infrastructure is a key element in the electrification of road transport. Completely in line with our leading role in the transition to renewable energy, we decided to act and, together with Milence, provide charging hubs in the Antwerp port area. We hope to be a source of inspiration for other ports and logistics areas.”

In recent months, Milence has announced several new charging parks, for example two locations in Germany or in Sweden. The company has the ambitious goal of setting up at least 1,700 high-performance charging points across Europe by 2027.
