Truck charging specialist Milence is planning its second charging hub in the Netherlands. The joint venture held by Daimler Truck, Traton and the Volvo Group, is already present in Venlo. A second location is due to open in Zwolle in December.

Milence plans to install a new charging hub in the Hessenpoort industrial estate in Zwolle. The company describes the location as a logistics hub with a large number of logistics and distribution centres, production facilities and service providers. The industrial estate is also close to the A28 and A50 motorways and is an important hub in the North Sea-Baltic corridor, which connects important seaports such as Rotterdam and Hamburg.

The company is developing the charging hub in two stages. Initially, four CCS chargers will be offered, which can supply electric lorries in eight charging bays. However, according to Milence, phase one this time still includes the subsequent installation of an MCS charger, which will be assigned to two charging bays. From December, the charging offer will be flanked by sanitary facilities, a drivers’ lounge and vending machines with drinks and snacks.

In the second expansion phase, the facility will then be extended to include additional MCS chargers and up to 16 charging bays. Milence is also planning to install additional sanitary facilities and vending machines.

Milence CEO Anja van Niersen is convinced that the new charging hub forms a good basis with the combination of the charging station already in operation in Venlo and the recently opened charging station in the port of Antwerp-Bruges. “With the already operational charging hub in Venlo and the recent opening of the hub in Port of Antwerp-Bruges, the network expansion in the Benelux region will provide a robust support to logistics companies and shippers and will enable the operation of multiple electric routes, thereby helping these businesses achieve their sustainability goals.”

Over the last few months, Milence has made several announcements about new charging parks, for example, for its first two locations in Germany. The company plans to set up at least 1,700 high-power charging points across Europe by 2027. Three locations have been opened so far: in  Venlo (Netherlands), Heudebouville (France) and in the port of Antwerp-Bruges (Belgium).
