Ferrari wants to drive forward innovations in battery cell technology together with SK On. The two companies have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) for a corresponding development partnership.

SK On is Ferrari’s only battery partner and has supplied battery cells for the Italians’ plug-in hybrids since 2019. The batteries were used in Ferrari’s first plug-in hybrid, the expensive SF90 Stradale supercar and the SF90 Spider convertible version. Also SK On supplies the power storage units for the somewhat larger numbers of Ferrari PHEVs, the 296 GTB and 296 GTS.

We are working together with SK On to explore new frontiers and fuel the energy of shared ideas.”

Ferrari plans to electrify 60 per cent of its models by 2026 – either as plug-in hybrids or purely electric. In November 2023, Vigna stated in an interview that the development of the first electric Ferrari was on schedule and that the model would hit the road in the fourth quarter of 2025. The as-yet-unnamed electric Ferrari will be manufactured in the EV factory in Maranello, where a dedicated production facility for hybrid and electric sports cars is currently being built.
