French retailer Carrefour has commissioned charging infrastructure provider Eleport to install over 170 charging points at its store locations, divided over 70 charging stations in 65 Polish cities.

Both partners aim to put the charging stations into operation at all locations as quickly as possible, and the first charging stations are due to go into operation this year. Neither company has provided any information on the hardware or charging capacity – only that they will be fast chargers among them. “Thanks to this partnership, we will be able to offer customers of the network in several dozen Polish cities the opportunity to charge their cars quickly during their daily shopping trip,” says Paweł Doleciński, Sales Manager at Eleport.

According to the charging infrastructure provider, it currently operates over 800 charging points in Poland, Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania and plans to increase this number to 1,350 by the end of this year.

The French retailer sees the development of charging infrastructure at its sites by its partner Eleport as part of the global “Carrefour 2026” strategy, aiming to reduce the company’s CO2 emissions by 30 per cent by 2025, 50 per cent by 2030 and 70 per cent by 2040 compared to 2019.

In May this year Eleport launched the largest EV charging hub in Central and Eastern Europe. This significant development features 20 charging stations installed in the first phase, capable of servicing up to 40 electric vehicles simultaneously, strategically located at the Akropolis shopping centre in Kaunas, Lithuania. This ambitious project represents an initial investment of one million euros, with plans for an additional 20 stations.
